Forgot your WordPress login, or the "Lost your password?" email never arrives? On Instant Access Internet Services hosting, you can reset your WordPress admin password straight from cPanel with WP Toolkit, without needing access to the WordPress dashboard or your email. This guide covers the quickest method first, then two backups.
Method 1: Reset the WordPress admin password in WP Toolkit (fastest)
- Log in to cPanel and go to Domains > WordPress Management (WP Toolkit).
- Find your site in the list. Next to the Log In button on its card, click Setup.
- A window opens showing the admin username and email address. Enter a new password in the password field, or use the generate option to create a strong random one. Copy it somewhere safe.
- Click Change. The new password works immediately.
- Go to
https://example.com/wp-adminand log in with the username shown in that window and your new password.
Tip: If you just need to get into the dashboard, you don't need the password at all. Click Log In on the site's card in WP Toolkit and it signs you straight in as the admin. You can then change the password under Users > Profile in WordPress.
If your site isn't listed in WP Toolkit (for example, you installed it by hand), click Scan at the top of the WP Toolkit page to add it.
Method 2: Use the "Lost your password?" link
- Go to
https://example.com/wp-login.php. - Click Lost your password?.
- Enter your WordPress username or the email address on your admin account and click Get New Password.
- Open the email from WordPress and follow the link to set a new password.
If the email doesn't arrive, check your spam folder. If the admin email address is old or wrong, use Method 1 instead.
Method 3: Reset the password in phpMyAdmin
Use this only if WP Toolkit can't manage the site. Make a backup of the database first.
- Find your database name: open
wp-config.phpin File Manager and look for theDB_NAMEline. Note the table prefix too ($table_prefix, oftenwp_). - In cPanel, go to Databases > phpMyAdmin and click your database in the left panel.
- Open the
wp_userstable (with your prefix) and click Edit on your admin user's row. - In the
user_passrow, choose MD5 in the Function drop-down and type your new password in the Value box. - Click Go. Log in with the new password. WordPress automatically upgrades the password to a stronger hash on your first login.
Troubleshooting
I reset the password but still can't log in
- Make sure you are using the right username -- WP Toolkit's Setup window shows it.
- Clear your browser cookies for the site, or try a private window.
- A security or login-limiting plugin may have locked you out for a while. Wait 15-30 minutes, or rename that plugin's folder in
wp-content/pluginswith File Manager to disable it.
I can't reach the site or cPanel at all
Many failed login attempts can make our firewall temporarily block your IP address. If nothing on your site or cPanel loads from your connection, open a ticket and include your IP address (find it at whatismyipaddress.com).
The login page shows an error or a blank screen
