How to Speed Up WordPress with LiteSpeed Cache

Instant Access Internet Services servers run the LiteSpeed web server, so the fastest way to speed up WordPress is the free LiteSpeed Cache plugin (often called LSCache). It stores ready-made copies of your pages on the server and serves them instantly instead of rebuilding each page for every visitor. This guide shows how to install LiteSpeed Cache, choose the right settings, and clear the cache when you make changes.

Step 1: Install the LiteSpeed Cache plugin

You can install it from inside WordPress:

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard (in cPanel, Domains > WordPress Management (WP Toolkit) > Log In on your site's card).
  2. Go to Plugins > Add New Plugin.
  3. Search for LiteSpeed Cache. Install the one by LiteSpeed Technologies and click Activate.

You can also enable it from cPanel: go to Advanced > LiteSpeed Web Cache Manager, click Scan (or Re-scan) to find your WordPress site, tick it and click Enable Selected.

Remove other caching plugins first. Running LiteSpeed Cache alongside WP Super Cache, W3 Total Cache, WP Fastest Cache, WP Rocket or similar causes conflicts. Deactivate and delete them, then activate LiteSpeed Cache.

Step 2: Choose a LiteSpeed Cache preset

Page caching works as soon as the plugin is active. Presets add the extra speed settings for you in one click.

  1. In WordPress, go to LiteSpeed Cache > Presets.
  2. Pick a preset and click Apply Preset under it, then confirm. Your previous settings are saved automatically.
  3. Open your site in a private browser window and click around: menus, forms, sliders, the cart and checkout if you have a shop.
PresetBest for
EssentialsSafest. Page and browser caching only.
BasicA good start for most sites. Adds mobile cache and image optimization.
AdvancedRecommended for most sites once Basic works. Adds CSS/JS minification and more.
Aggressive / ExtremeMaximum speed, but more likely to break layouts or scripts. Test carefully.

If a preset breaks something, go back to LiteSpeed Cache > Presets, scroll down to the history section and restore your previous settings, or apply a lower preset.

Some features, such as image optimization and critical CSS, use LiteSpeed's free QUIC.cloud online service. The plugin will prompt you to connect if a feature needs it.

Step 3: Purge the cache after you make changes

LiteSpeed Cache clears the right pages automatically when you publish or update a post. If you change a menu, widget, theme setting or custom CSS and don't see it on the site:

  • Hover over the LiteSpeed icon in the WordPress admin bar at the top of the screen and choose Purge All, or
  • Go to LiteSpeed Cache > Toolbox > Purge and click Purge All.

Then reload the page (on a computer, Ctrl+F5 or Cmd+Shift+R to bypass your browser's own cache).

More ways to speed up WordPress

  • Use a current PHP version. Newer PHP is noticeably faster. Check or change your version in Software > MultiPHP Manager.
  • Resize images before uploading. A 5 MB phone photo slows any page down.
  • Remove plugins you don't use. Every active plugin adds work to every page load.
  • Clean up the database in LiteSpeed Cache > Database to remove old revisions and spam comments (take a backup first).

Troubleshooting

My site looks broken after turning on LiteSpeed Cache

This is almost always the CSS/JS optimization, not the page cache. Apply a lower preset, or in LiteSpeed Cache > Page Optimization turn off CSS and JS minify/combine options one at a time, purging the cache after each change, until the problem goes away.

Logged-in users or cart contents show for the wrong visitor

LiteSpeed Cache doesn't cache pages for logged-in users or WooCommerce carts by default. If you see this, another caching plugin or a changed setting is usually the cause. Purge all and check for other cache plugins.

How can I tell the cache is working?

Open your site in a private window, open the browser's developer tools (F12), go to the Network tab, reload, and click the first request. A response header of x-litespeed-cache: hit means the page was served from cache. The first visit after a purge shows miss; reload and it should become hit.

Is my site slow because of hosting limits?

Check Resource Usage in cPanel. If you're hitting CPU or entry process limits, caching usually fixes it. See the resource usage guide below.
