The easiest way to set up your email on Android is the Gmail app, which is installed on almost every Android phone and works with any mailbox, not just Gmail. We also cover Samsung Email. You'll add your Instant Access Internet Services mailbox as an IMAP account so it stays in sync with your computer and webmail.
Before you start
Have these ready:
- Your full email address, for example
you@example.com. - The password for that email account (not your cPanel password, unless you set them the same). To reset it, see How to Change an Email Account Password in cPanel.
- The mail server name. In cPanel, go to Email > Email Accounts and click Connect Devices next to the account. The Secure SSL/TLS Settings section shows the incoming and outgoing server, normally
mail.example.com. See How to Find Your Email Settings with Connect Devices.
Android email settings
| Setting | Incoming (IMAP) | Outgoing (SMTP) |
|---|---|---|
| Server | mail.example.com | mail.example.com |
| Port | 993 | 465 (or 587) |
| Security type | SSL/TLS | SSL/TLS for 465, STARTTLS for 587 |
| Username | your full email address | your full email address |
| Require sign-in | -- | On |
Replace mail.example.com with your own domain. If your domain's SSL certificate isn't active yet, use secure.instantaccess.net for both servers instead.
How to add your email to the Gmail app
Menu wording can vary slightly between phone brands and app versions, but the steps are the same.
- Open the Gmail app. Tap your profile picture (top right), then tap Add another account.
- Tap Other.
- Enter your full email address and tap Manual setup (if you only see Next, tap that).
- Choose Personal (IMAP).
- Enter your email password and tap Next.
- On the Incoming server settings screen, set Username to your full email address and Server to
mail.example.com. Tap Next. - On the Outgoing server settings screen, make sure Require sign-in is on, set Username to your full email address, enter your password, and set SMTP server to
mail.example.com. Tap Next. - Choose how often to check for mail and whether to get notifications, then tap Next.
- Enter the name people should see on your messages and tap Next.
To switch between accounts, tap your profile picture. Send yourself a test message to confirm sending works.
Check the ports and security
The Gmail app usually picks the right ports. If it can't connect, set them by hand: tap the menu (three lines) > Settings, tap your email address, then scroll down to Incoming settings (port 993, security type SSL/TLS) and Outgoing settings (port 465, security type SSL/TLS). Avoid any option that says "accept all certificates".
How to add your email to Samsung Email
- Open Samsung Email. If you already have an account, tap the menu (three lines), then the Settings gear, then Add account.
- Choose Other, enter your email address and password, and tap Manual setup.
- Choose IMAP account.
- Under the incoming server, enter your full email address as the username,
mail.example.comas the IMAP server, security type SSL (or SSL/TLS) and port993. - Under the outgoing server, enter
mail.example.com, security type SSL and port465. Make sure authentication (sign-in) is required and uses your full email address and password. - Tap Sign in.
Troubleshooting
"Authentication failed" or "Couldn't open connection to server"
Check the username is the full email address and the password is correct. Test the same details in webmail (see How to Log In to Webmail (Roundcube)). Then check the server name, port 993 and security type SSL/TLS.
I can receive but not send
Check the outgoing settings: Require sign-in on, full email address as username, port 465 with SSL/TLS (or 587 with STARTTLS). More fixes are in How to Fix "Cannot Send Email" (SMTP Authentication Errors).
Certificate warning
This usually means the free SSL certificate for mail.example.com hasn't been issued yet. Don't accept all certificates. Use secure.instantaccess.net as the server name instead, or open a ticket.
Suddenly nothing connects (on Wi-Fi only)
Repeated failed logins (often an old password saved on another device) can make our firewall temporarily block your IP address. If mail works on mobile data but not on your home or office Wi-Fi, that's the likely cause. Look up your IP at whatismyipaddress.com while on that Wi-Fi and send it to us in a ticket.
